In Mauritius, 80% of the Municipal Domestic Wastes
(papers, yard wastes and food wastes) are classified
as organic.
These can be recycled into valuable bio-fertilizers
through the process of composting.
Duraco compost bin creates the right conditions for
rapidly growing micro-organisms which decompose organic
wastes to form compost. Aerobic composting takes place
in the presence of oxygen, humidity and organic matter.
In the process, aerobic micro-organisms also produce
carbon dioxide, ammonia, water, heat as well as humus
(compost).
The main features of Duraco Compost bin are as follows:
Manufactured from 100% virgin material
Moulded in-one-piece design
Opaque design with holes on the sides for airflow
UV stabilized
No taste or odour imparted from polyethylene
High impact resistance
A robust and user-friendly system made in two pieces;
the drum and its base
Wheeled base makes turning and mixing process effortless
as compared to conventional compost bins
Easy transfer of compost to containers
Capacity: 250L
Length: 885 mm
Width: 590 mm

User Guidelines:
For best results, it is recommended to make mixed
layers (green matter and dry matter):
Garden Waste – 1 part dry: 4 parts green
Kitchen Waste – 1 part dry: 1 part green
If moisture leakage is noticed at the vent holes of
the compost bin, add some dry matter to the mixture
Composting can be carried out with the compost bin
half full – minimum necessary to produce required heat
to destroy harmful elements
When the compost bin is full, leave sufficient space for
movement and aeration of waste matter for the first days
until heat production and decomposition start
Always keep the compost bin closed during composting
The internal temperature rises to 55°C during the first
2 days and remains constant for 15 days.
The last 5 days are the cooling period of the cycle
It is recommended to rotate the compost bin 5 times a day.
These rotations are necessary for the circulation of oxygen
essential to the growth of aerobic bacteria.
If not aerated, the process is delayed and there is risk
of decay and odour.
Compost is ready when it is black in colour and smells
like soil
Leave a small amount in the compost bin to speed up
the next composting process
